A mercury bulb attached to a long narrow stem allows the hydrometer to be filled with mercury which is the type used for laboratory analysis and control work. Samples are placed on the hydrometer and the mercury is inserted into the bulb until it shows color change. Following a known temperature and pressure the hydrometer measures the specific gravity of a solution at that particular temperature and pressure. Samples are removed and
