The AXSR is based on Accuracy International's submission for the USSOCOM Advanced Sniper Rifle program (ASR). Like its predecessor, the AXMC; this rifle system is a multi-caliber platform designed to be configured at the user level. Caliber conversions are accomplished by removing the barrel with a 4mm hex key, changing the bolt body, and selecting the appropriate magazine. The QUICKLOC barrel release housing is located in the lower-right side of the action, requiring 49 inch lbs. of torque when installing a new barrel. Bolt bodies can be changed without tools while utilizing the original Shroud and Firing Pin Assembly. Beyond the redesign of the chassis, the operation of this system is similar to the AXMC. When shooting this rifle, the noticeable differences are the pistol grip and the 2 - Position Safety. Otherwise, the operation of this system feels like an Accuracy International - only with a modern revision. Stocksides are not used, allowing the use of an AR pistol grip which has been rotated to reduce the angle of the grip itself. The forend is a one-piece system with an integral picatinny rail and KeySlot. Two textured barricade stops are located in front of the mag well and grip area, paired with the RRS dovetail standard machined into the forend and grip area. The length of pull and cheek piece are adjusted with a level system design, while the butt pad can be raised, lowered, and rotated with a thumbwheel adjustment.
